Versatile Decorating Ideas With Leather Look Ceiling Tiles

One of my favorite new discoveries is the cool new leather look tiles. These are three dimensional soundproofing tiles that can add a luxurious feel to a room both with their appearance and with their sound absorbing qualities. They can really change the look of a room with just a little imagination and some D-I-Y creativity!

We used the black Faux Leather tiles on the front of the bar that was in the back of our family room and really like the improvement. The bar had laminated melamine, like Formica in woodgrain finish. It wasn’t very good imitation and looked more like Formica than wood. It seemed to add an echo from the new surround sound in our home theater setup. We arranged the tiles in blocks of 6 which covered 30 x 45" with 3" between the blocks of tiles. It took only 18 tiles to do the whole front of the bar that stretches 12 feet wide across the back of the room. The imitation leather tiles make it look like we paid a fortune to have the bar refinished with upholstery! Best of all, no more echo from the back of the room; the tiles absorb sounds much better than hard solid surfaces and let us enjoy our sound system the way it was meant to sound.
We had originally thought about doing this work with the inexpensive styrofoam tiles. That would have helped with the sound problems and we probably would have saved some money with those tiles. Either choice would give us a good looking bar for entertaining our friends and family. What changed our minds is that even though the leather look tiles are more expensive, they add far more sound control and made the whole room much more unique and luxurious. It feels like we are in a deluxe private theater with the difference in sound.
